About the conference

Objectives

  1. To accommodate and motivate an exchange of academic knowledge and experiences, which lead to new ideas to manage the current and future environmental issues.
  2. To establish academic networks and find solutions to deal with regional and global environmental problems.

 

Pattern of Conference

The conference will consist of special lectures from guest speakers, presentations of research results in lecture and poster formats, exhibitions, and field trips via an online meeting platform, broadcast from Bangkok, Thailand.

About our

Keynote Speakers

1.       Prof. Dr. Robert Brian Shutes: Keynote speaker 1: "Climate Change and Water Resource Adaptation”

                                                                                                                 

Robert Brian Shutes is Emeritus Professor of Ecotechnology at Middlesex University, London. He was Vice-Chair of the International Water Association (IWA) Specialist Group on ‘The use of Wetlands for Water Pollution Control’ (1996-2008). He has been a consultant and partner on projects in Asia for the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, European Union, UK and Singapore Government Departments and Agencies, and has organized and presented at workshops, seminars and conferences in Asian countries. He has also been a Visiting-Professor at universities in Asia.


2.       Prof. Wladyslaw W. Szymanski: Keynote Speaker 2: “Inseparable Entanglement: Air Pollution-Climate Change-Health”
       
Prof. Wladyslaw W. Szymanski  serves as retired member at the Faculty of Physics, University of Vienna, Austria. For many years he headed the Aerosol Physics and Environmental Physics Group. He is active as a lecturer at leading international universities. His research and expertise focus on Aerosol Science related to the Atmosphere: aerosol processes, particle sampling and characterization, air quality and development of innovative instrumentation. He authored/co- authored over 100 contributions to journals and books. He received the prestigious Smoluchowski Award for outstanding contributions to aerosol optics and served number of years on the Board of the Association for Aerosol Research.


3. Dr. Porametee Vimolsiri:  Keynote speech 3 : “A Path to Sustainability After Covid-19”
  
Dr. Porametee Vimolsiri graduated from Chulalongkorn University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Master’s Degree in International Affairs from Columbia University, New York, USA. He started a career as a policy and plan analyst in Overall Planning Division at NESDB in 1987 and then continued his study at Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada, where received his Ph.D. in Economics in 1994. After completing his doctorate, he continued his career at NESDB as policy and plan analyst in economic analysis and projection division and became Deputy Secretary General in 2009.

In October 2015, he was promoted as the Secretary General of the National Economic and Social Development Board responsible for formulating development strategies at the national level, providing recommendations and suggestions to the government, putting policies and strategies of the government into practice and monitoring and evaluating policies and analyzing the in-depth national and international data which are relevant to economic and social issues.

He is a member of the Bank of Thailand board and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand board and The Public Private Partnership Committee. Concurrently, he joined the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) at the Bank of Thailand in 2015 which is responsible for setting the monetary policy stance and formulating the monetary policy direction and joined the Board of Investment committee which is the principal government agency for encouraging investment and support foreign investors to set up their business operation in Thailand. Last but not least, he frequently gives lectures and speeches at various academic institution and economic outlook events in Thailand.


4.  Mr. Philip Smith :  Keynote speech 4

Phil’s forty years in education span the breadth of formal and non-formal education: schools, TAFE, community colleges, universities and a wide range of community settings. He has held leadership roles in schools, government agencies, the Australian Association for Environmental Education, and local and international NGOs. He has worked overseas in education, training and evaluation. His experience includes advocacy at local, state and federal levels; education in a humanitarian environment (Nauru); sustainability leadership courses for young people; professional development for teachers and trainers; conference facilitation; and mentoring training. Sustainability education has been and remains a key focus of his education work. As Manager Education in ResourceNSW, he worked with the Department of Education & Training to set up the NSW Sustainable Schools Program. 

Phil’s training includes: Restorative Practices, Conflict Resolution, Media & Public Communication, First Aid, Transition Towns, Writing for Sustainability, Community Engagement Techniques, Habits of Mind, and Approaches to Partnership Building.

Phil teaches in two teacher-training programs at Western Sydney University. He also works as an education consultant, facilitator and writer. He spends considerable time working in a voluntary capacity with the Sutherland Shire Environment Centre on environmental campaigning and as a writer for the New Bush Telegraph


5. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Onwona-Agyeman Siaw: Keynote speech 5: "The Potential Role of Mulching Boards in Conservation Agriculture"

Assoc. Prof. Siaw ONWONA-AGYEMAN is an Associate Professor at Institute of Agriculture, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, Japan. He obtained a PhD in Forest Engineering from Nagoya University and has been actively lecturing and conducting research on the development of mulching boards. He has participated in many local and international projects on the use of mulching boards in improving soil properties and boosting agricultural production. He has authored/co-authored over 50 journal articles and books.


6. Prof. Dr. John Bavor : Keynote speech 6: "Can Nature by Nature Water and Ecosystem Management Survive"

                                                                                                                    

Prof. John Bavor, Director of the University of Western Sydney’s Water Research Laboratory and Centre for Water and Environmental Technology, has wide experience in utilisation of ecotechnology options for integrated water, watershed and wetland management solutions. During the period from 1992-1996, he was Visiting Professor at UNSW School of Civil Engineering, as Project Director, Cooperative Research Centre for Waste Management and Pollution Control: Advanced Constructed Wetlands Technology.  He recently was a member of the Australian Commonwealth Department of Industry, Science and Technology's Collaborative program in Environmental Technologies industry mission to SE-Asia and China, and works with UNDP, UNESCO, FAO and WHO Programs.  He is actively involved in watershed management and watershed assessment research.   Projects have included Specialist, Design, Development and Commissioning of ecotechnology mitigation wetlands systems, providing elements of the original wetland habitats and flow/pollutant reduction in the Kam Tin Valley, Hong Kong.  He was Project Leader for ecotechnology option development for sustainable agriculture, Chaohu Lake, China.  Professor Bavor has been an invited keynote speaker at International Environmental Symposia in Europe (UK, France and Austria), South America (Brazil), USA (Florida and Louisiana), Africa (Kenya), South East Asia (China), Middle East (Iran), Philippines and Papua New Guinea.  Other research interests include solid waste management, bioremediation, stormwater management and groundwater resources protection.  Collaborating international research links are established in Brazil, Africa, China, Thailand, Philippines, Viet Nam, India, Mongolia and other developing countries.  Professor Bavor is a foundation Member and Regional Coordinator of the International Water Association - Use of Macrophytes in Water Pollution Control Group and a Regional Coordinator for the Society of Wetland Scientists.   


7. Dr. Vijarn Simachaya Keynote speech 7: "Bio Circular Green Economy: BCG Model"

Dr. Wijarn Simachaya is currently serving as the President of Thailand Environment Institute (TEI). He is the former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE), Thailand. Dr. Simachaya has played an active role in facilitating climate change and environment-related policies in Thailand. To formulate these policies, he serves as a prominent member of the Thailand Bio-diversity Network Alliance Advisory Committee.

10. Prof. Dr. Timothy S. Wood: Keynote speech 10 : "Living on a Boardwalk: How human societies can harmonize with the natural biosphere"

                                                                                                                     

Prof. Dr. Timothy S. Wood is Professor Emeritus of Biological Sciences at Wright State University, Ohio, U.S.A. He graduated his bachelor and master degrees from University of Denver and Illinois Institute of Technology, respectively. He further obtained his PhD at University of Colorado, Boulder, USA in 1971. He is also now working as senior scientist at Bryo Technologies LLC, Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Timothy’s professional interests include biology of bryozoans, especially distribution, ecology, colony development, taxonomy, and biofouling control. His research also focuses on ecology of marine and freshwater communities, including biological monitoring of water quality. In 2016, Dr. Timothy was elected the President of International Bryozoology Association.   


11. Prof. Tasuku Kato : Keynote speech 11 :

                                                                                                                               

Prof. Tasuku Kato is currently is a Professor of the Institute of Agriculture, Division of International Environmental and Agricultural Science, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology His research field is Water quality issues in irrigation & drainage and Watershed management in agricultural area. Monitoring, simulation model, and scenario analysis were conducted in Kasumigaura basin, Japan and several watersheds in south east Asia.    


12. Dr.Bharat Dahiya : Keynote speech 12: "Putting People at the Center: Transforming Environmental Adaptation and Social Self-Reliance”

                                                                                                              

Prof. Dr. Bharat Dahiya is senior advisor to the Environment, Development and Sustainability Program at Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok. An award-winning Urbanist, he combines academic research, policy analysis and development practice aimed at examining and tackling current social, economic, environmental and governance issues at multiple geographical scales. He holds a PhD in Urban Governance, Planning and the Environment from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom. Since early-1990s, Dr. Bharat’s research and professional work has focused on sustainable urbanization, and sustainable, resilient and green cities. During this work at the World Bank, UN-Habitat, the Asian Development Bank, UNDP, and United Nations University, he initiated, led, managed and contributed to technical assistance and operational projects on sustainable urban development in a number of countries around the world.


13.  Prof. Dr. Ronghuai Huang: Keynote speech 13:
        
Prof. Dr. Ronghuai Huang is a Professor in Faculty of Education of Beijing Normal University (BNU). He has being engaged in the research on smart learning environment, artificial intelligence in education, educational technology as well as knowledge engineering. He received ‘Chang Jiang Scholar’ award in 2016, which is the highest academic award presented to an individual in higher education by the Ministry of Education of China. He serves as Co-Dean of Smart Learning Institute, Director of UNESCO International Rural Educational and Training Centre, and Director of China National Engineering Lab for Cyberlearning Intelligent Technology. He is very active in academic organizations both at home and abroad. He is also Committeeman of the Science Subject Expert Committee of the National Textbook Committee, Vice-chairman of China Educational Technology Association, Deputy Director of Teaching Guidance Committee of Educational Technology at Institutions of Higher Education (MOE), Vice-Chairman of Beijing Education Informatization Expert Committee, and Expert of MOE AI Innovation Panel. During 2013 to 2018, he serves as General Chair for International Conference on Advanced Learning Technology (ICALT). He is also Executive Committeeman of The Global Chinese Society for Computers in Education, Vice President of International Association of Smart Learning Environments (IASLE), and Editor-in-Chief of Springer’s Journal of Smart Learning Environment and Journal of Computers in Education. Till now, he has accomplished and is working on over 100 projects, and his ideas have been widely spread, with about 400 academic papers and over 40 books published at home and aboard.
